Peachtree City Re-Refinery

‘Re-Refining Used Oil into Recycled Oil’

Following our long-term commitment to serve our used oil customers in the best way possible, Universal Environmental Services completed construction of its state-of-the-art used oil re-refinery in Peachtree City, GA., in 2013. This $60 million investment speaks for itself about our dedication to excel in our task of being the most efficient used oil collector and re-refiner in the United States. The re-refinery processes 62 million gallons of used oil per year.

The re-refinery uses Avista-patented technology. Avista Oil, the majority owner of UES, has already built three other re-refineries in Saudi Arabia (2003), Germany (2005), and Denmark (2008). All three plants have been running at full capacity since their establishment. Avista Oil is one of Europe’s leading companies in oil re-refining and a global pioneer in the production of high-quality base oils and lubricants.

Universal Environmental Service’s plant in Peachtree City, GA., brought — and continues to bring— a plethora of new jobs to our community. The continued growth of the UES family has led to job growth company-wide.

The re-refinery has offered all of our used oil customers in the Southeast the best processing facility of its kind in the United States. We are proud of our investment and we’re looking forward to continuing to expand and execute our long-term vision for the used oil recycling industry.

Re-refining waste oil is the upcycling of a non-renewable resource. Most new oils are produced through the refining of crude oils, much of which is purchased from other countries. Re-refining of waste oil does not require new natural non-renewable resources because waste oil can be re-refined endless times. It never loses its base oil qualities. The re-refining process will remove and restore the oil into its “virgin” base oil condition, ready for reformulating with additive packages to produce the highest quality oils on the market.

Recycled Oil

Environmental Impact of Recycled Oil

In July of 2006, the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy, published their Used Oil Re-refining Study. The study reported that re-refining saved some of the energy content of the recycled oil, as compared to burning the oil as fuel. The report also shows that the energy consumed in re-refining is 50 percent to 85 percent less when compared to virgin base oil refining and transforming used oil that is currently burned into recycled base oil can save 63 million gallons of fuel per year!

Re-refining and Energy Savings

UES recycled oil re-refinery

Re-refining used motor oil means less crude oil has to be pumped and refined, which is a savings in natural resources as well as energy. The United States Environmental Protection Agency states: “If properly managed, used oil is a valuable resource that can be used as a base stock for new lubricating oil… .”

When waste oil is re-refined instead of being burned or otherwise disposed, contaminants and potentially harmful compounds that are emitted when burning used oil are instead solidified or stabilized. The contaminants are then beneficially recycled into an asphalt compound and not released to the environment.
