Fluorescent and HID light bulbs that are disposed of improperly are dangerous contaminants. Standard five foot fluorescent bulbs contain 37.5 milligrams of mercury. There are 550 million fluorescent and HID mercury containing lamps disposed of each year. This results in more than 30,000 pounds disposed of yearly in the United States. Businesses who trash their bulbs generate and create mercury vapor which rises into our atmosphere, falls back to earth through precipitation and contaminates our soil, groundwater, rivers and lakes. That mercury is ingested by fish, wildlife and ultimately humans! Universal offers a simple, yet comprehensive program to recycle used fluorescents, HIDs, and other mercury-containing lamps.  On your pre-determined service schedule, Universal will collect, transport and recycle the lamps in accordance with all local, state and federal government regulations.
